Reflection

Well, it is now 2025 and a lot of people seem to be reflecting on the past year. So I thought I'd join the crowd. Creatively last year I think I did pretty well. I started 2024 performing in a beautiful little show called, "Love Letters". Then I ventured on a big journey into the voiceover world as I tackled the voiceover diploma program with On The Mic. It was an intense 6 month program which I managed to complete while keeping my full-time day job. Then when that was done I started back to auditioning for theatre shows. I managed to get four auditions which I am very grateful for because of the lessons I learned. The first audition I put my heart and soul into and did everything I could because I wanted the role so badly. However, I did not get it. I will be honest and say I was upset. First, because I worked so hard on it and second, because I allowed yet another rejection to get to me. As many actors, I have been rejected many times but I still seem to fall victim to the rejection. Once I picked myself up from that fall I began to repeat this mantra, "I am just here to learn and have fun one step at a time" and after having four auditions I eventually managed to land two parts! (I only accepted one because they had conflicting dates but it feels good to say that my success rate was 50%.) I'd also like to say that, during one of my successful auditions I actually performed the same monologue I did for the show that rejected me. So that just goes to show you that it really can be that the people in charge just had a different vision for the role.

And that concludes 2024 for me.

Now on a more serious note, I'd like to reflect on some stories I read today. One story was about a young woman who was diagnosed with ALS. Her story is amazing. Instead of taking this devastating disease and wallowing in self pity she found a way to share her story and her humor with the world in the hope that others may learn from it. I also read another story about some women in Syria who lived through some terrible atrocities during the war there. All these women are strong and courageous, facing the challenges and dangers in this world full-on. I am grateful to have read their stories and will carry them in my heart. I truly live a privileged life and do not take life for granted.
